February is a great time to plant certain flower bulbs in the UK, especially those that thrive in early spring or summer. Here’s a list of the best flower bulbs to plant during this time…
Spring-Flowering Bulbs (to plant indoors or force flowering):
Tulips – If you haven’t planted them in autumn, you can still plant tulip flower bulbs in February, especially if the ground isn’t frozen. They’ll bloom later in spring.
Daffodils (Narcissus) – While these are typically planted in autumn, early February is your last chance to get them into the ground.
Hyacinths – You can plant prepared bulbs indoors for forcing to enjoy blooms in late spring.
Crocus – Perfect for containers or garden borders, crocus flower bulbs bring early spring colour.
Summer-Flowering Bulbs (to plant in February)
Lilies – Plant oriental or Asiatic lilies in pots or directly into the ground for blooms in summer.
Alliums – These striking bulbs need a head start to develop, so February is ideal for planting.
