Our Story

The Hildreth family have always lived in Prestwood and first opened a Blacksmiths shop on the Wycombe Road 500 years ago. The nearby family home, once used as a billet for soldiers in the First World War, was from where Ted Hildreth oversaw the construction of the1930s Hildreth’s building that still trades today.

Richard Hildreth, took over in the 1980s, building the large greenhouse that still houses all our plants, outdoor living and garden accessories. Then, in the late 90s, the Tea Rooms finally opened, offering much-needed refreshment to busy shoppers!

Today Hildreth’s is run by Richard’s son, Dan. Together with General Manager Martin, he continues to strive to provide a friendly, knowledgeable hub for local homemakers and garden lovers to return to, again and again.
