Best selection of BBQs in High Wycombe

Winter BBQ anyone?

Hildreth’s is one of the leading Traeger Grill stockists and if you haven’t tasted the amazing things a Traeger can grill, smoke, bake, roast and BBQ yet, you really should!

Traeger grills have built up a cult following amongst BBQ connoisseurs and when you taste what they can do, you’ll understand why. These premium grills are an excellent choice for outdoor cooking all year round, thanks to their versatile design, durability, and consistent temperature control.

Here’s how you can make the most of a Traeger all-year-round, regardless of the chilly British weather…

Versatile Cooking Options

Traeger grills are pellet grills, which means they use wood pellets for fuel, giving your food a unique wood-fired flavour (we have plenty of pellets in stock too). They can grill, smoke, bake, roast, braise, and BBQ, allowing for a wide range of cooking styles, from slow-smoked brisket in winter to quick-grilled steaks in summer.

They are also fitted with digital controllers that make it easy to maintain precise cooking temperatures. This is crucial for consistent results, especially in colder months.

All-Weather Cooking

You can get special insulated blankets for some Traeger models, which helps them retain heat in cold weather and make the grill more efficient. A weather-resistant cover will protect your new grill from snow, rain, and UV rays.

If you’re cooking al fresco in cooler weather, you might find that your grill needs more pellets to keep the temperature where it needs to be, so make sure you have plenty of pellets on hand.

Winter Cooking Tips:

If you’re planning to use your Traeger in autumn and winter, it’s worth preheating the grill for an extra 10-15 minutes or so, to reach the desired temperature. This ensures even cooking and better fuel efficiency.

Resist the urge to open the lid frequently if you can, as it releases heat and forces the grill to work harder to maintain the temperature – as with any ordinary BBQ. Place your grill in the most sheltered spot you can to protect it from strong winds and precipitation.

Once you’re set up it’s time to get grilling…

Autumn: Roast root vegetables, smoke whole chickens, or try your hand at baking apple pie or cobbler on the grill.

Winter: Go for slow-cooked comfort foods like smoked ribs, pulled pork, or brisket. You can also bake bread, pizzas, or even desserts on your Traeger.

Spring: Grill seasonal vegetables, fresh fish, or lighter meats like chicken and turkey.

Summer: Take advantage of quick-cooking options like burgers, hot dogs, kebabs, and steaks. Make use of the higher temperatures for searing.

Essential maintenance tips

Clean Regularly: Remove ash regularly, especially after longer cooks or during the winter months when more pellets may be used.

Check for Leaks: Inspect the gaskets and seals for any damage that could cause heat loss or affect temperature consistency.

Store Pellets Properly: Keep wood pellets dry by storing them in a sealed container or in a dry, sheltered area to prevent moisture from affecting performance.
