What is Ceanothus ‘Concha’?
It’s a fast-growing evergreen shrub with arching branches, dark green leaves, and masses of deep blue flowers in late spring and early summer. When in full bloom, it creates an eye-catching burst of colour that can completely transform a garden.
It typically reaches around 2–3 metres in height and spread, making it ideal as a feature plant, informal hedge, or wall shrub.

How to grow Ceanothus ‘Concha’
Growing this shrub successfully is all about choosing the right place from the start. If your garden has heavy clay soil, improve drainage before planting by adding grit or organic matter. Choose a spot with:
- Full sun
- Good drainage
- Shelter from cold winds
- Space to spread naturally
How to plant yours
Adding mulch after planting can help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Dig a hole twice as wide as the rootball
- Loosen the soil around the base
- Position the plant at the same depth as the nursery pot
- Backfill and firm gently
- Water thoroughly
Watering and feeding
During the first year, water regularly while roots establish. After that, Ceanothus usually only needs watering during prolonged dry spells.
